Junior Leader Training

Quick Links

This is a one-day to one-weekend event, conducted by the Troop scoutmaster and senior patrol leader to provide leadership guidelines for the youth leadership of the Troop. Training is accomplished with a video-based workshop called the "Scoutmaster Junior Leader Training Kit", which is available from the Council Scout Office.

Most Troops conduct Junior Leader Training as a get-together of the Troop leadership team in a location removed from the normal area of Troop activity. Although the Scoutmaster and his senior patrol leader preside over this training, opportunities can be created to involve parents, committee members, and chartered organization representatives as consultants. An outline for Troop Junior Leader Training is found in The Scoutmaster Handbook. Upon completion of this training, Scouts may wear the "Trained Leader Emblem", No. 280, on their sleeve below their badge of office.
